Philosophy of Education

Finding the balance between academic learning and free time to play provides a well-rounded educational experience for young children. Our relaxed environment lends itself critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and knowledge acquisition. This can be complemented by unstructured forest play, which allows for creativity, exploration, and connection with nature.

Strong academics form the foundation of a well-rounded education by equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in various fields. Math, science, language arts, and social studies provide a structured framework for learning and understanding the world around us. By focusing on academics, individuals can develop analytical thinking, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for various disciplines.

On the other hand, unstructured forest play offers a unique and immersive learning experience that encourages exploration, creativity, and physical activity. Spending time in nature has been linked to numerous benefits for mental and physical well-being, including reduced stress, improved concentration, and enhanced creativity. Engaging in unstructured play in a natural environment allows individuals to develop problem-solving skills, build resilience, and foster a sense of curiosity and wonder.

Intellectual and emotional development during early childhood should include opportunities for creativity, imagination, and hands-on exploration. This blend of structured and unstructured learning can help individuals develop a balance of cognitive, social, and emotional skills that are essential for success in all areas of life.

We promote environmental awareness and stewardship during our time outdoors. By spending time in nature and developing a connection to the natural world, individuals are more likely to appreciate and understand the importance of protecting the environment. This can lead to a greater sense of responsibility.

Our amazing Smoky Mountain setting nurtures both the mind and body. By embracing a holistic approach to education that combines structured learning with hands-on exploration in nature, individuals can develop the skills, knowledge, and values needed to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world.
